Well sheep of the Merino kind still do. With their wool made into felt. Used traditionally felt is not new. But when it finds new form in a stylish and colourful range of streetwise bags, called Carry Corp, it’s uber cool… but funnily not intended to be fashionable. In their words “Carry Corp was formed to create bags + accessories that look the same but different. We don’t use the usual materials – the forms may be recognisable but the cut and material is totally unique and limited.” The idea is to produce quality well-designed products that have a long life, rather than fashionable products produced on a whim and consigned to the landfill shortly thereafter. Products like this have a better chance of becoming design classics, like Burberry, or locally, the Swannie.
Materials are considered with the environment in mind and virtually all materials used are recyclable. And, most importantly, all products are hand made in pleasant environments right here in NZ. So there you are, it’s not all about dairy, logs and meat. Here we have a product that’s adding real value to our sheep herd. And keeping it local.
