Kennedy Brown Pacific Allsorts:

Furniture Made Tasty

< Back to the Profile

Kennedy Brown Pacific Allsorts: Kennedy Brown has spent the last couple of months preparing for the Pacific Allsorts exhibition. Kennedy's installation for Objectspace continues his exploration of the relationship between traditional and modern New Zealand furniture design. The exhibition will be open until the 2nd of November.

The Pacific Allsorts range consists of a Sideboard, a Side Table, and a Coffee Table. The intention is to express Kennedy's pacific homeland, Aotearoa, through particular materials, processes, functions and through form: "Merging elements and ideas of old and new, traditional and modern, together with the application of machine and craft, I aim to create objects of originality and beauty."
All three pieces are made with readily available materials. They are boldly coloured and have a Pasifik-inspired palette. The colours give the pieces a playful vibrancy that evokes the confectionery metaphor that the title alludes to: Allsorts.
Check out the Clever Hunting Blog or this website for more information about the exhibition and about what inspires Kennedy. You can see Kennedy's pieces at Objectspace on Ponsonby Road, Auckland, until the 2nd of November.
