"Now here's an artist that's all style."
Anna Church makes a living out of her talent for an aesthetic arrangement. As a freelance interior stylist working for a number of leading New Zealand magazines and homeware brands, she has carved a niche for herself as an expert in creating the visual manifestation of an idea. Church has taken her art a step further, imposing neither restraints of time nor the wishes of a client on herself to create the picture in her mind. "It has been a discovery. In my work I start with a brief - sometimes only a rough idea - but there are parameters to work to. Here I found the idea I had to come up with was entirely mine, and the work is somehow laid more bare for all to see than in a professional environment. It can be unnerving, but when I look at the finished product it is immensely satisfying," Anna's work explores New Zealand culture and history through sculptural assemblage. Iconic objects form iconic images; Vintage Crown Lynn ceramics, a Jackie Howe singlet, vintage wallpaper all emerge and create unique artworks.
