"Textile Designer by training, passionate Multi-skilled Designer by choice."
Genevieve Packer is a Wellington-based textile designer-maker, craft enthusiast and educator. After years of designing and making on the side, while teaching textile design, she has recently switched to designing and making fulltime. This currently involves producing a range of hand-printed textile-based products and silver jewellery, alongside one-off gallery works, commissions, collaborations, workshops and the odd spot of textiles for film. She has a multi-disciplinary approach to contemporary craft-based design – including a range of materials, hands-on and digital processes and techniques. Ongoing design interests include New Zealand's national identity and material culture, overlooked things in the everyday, and repeating pattern. Genevieve’s ranges of jewellery and textile products are produced in small batches, with close to no waste. She aims to use environmentally friendly materials, such as hemp, where possible, and to produce high quality, resonating products with a longer life cycle.
