Jenny KeateDesigner - Wellington |
|
"A designer who looks for the unexpected in expected materials" Jenny Keate is not afraid of pushing the boundaries. Nor is she afraid to have some fun. She arrived at her career via an interesting route: "I came to design rather late in the piece, having first tried on a couple of other careers (librarian, website administrator). I decided to try my hand at object design after dabbling in painting, woodwork, and so on." After working at Creative New Zealand Jenny headed to design school. "One of the projects involved [was] designing a piece of furniture in the style of a famous designer, and I chose to do a lamp in the style of Luigi Colani. There began my love of fluid forms, realised in fibreglass. I designed the Lily, Noodle and Bud lamps, and had quite a bit of success with them." Jenny graduated from VUW in 2008 with a first class hons degree and since then she has been developing new designs. Luminant is the outcome of a long process of experimenting with wool and its potential for use in lighting. After this little woollen beauty who knows what materials Jenny will be playing with next? |
