"The essence of New Zealand captured beautifully in mini objects."
We found Lindsay in her gorgeous art-filled house perched on Roseneath hill with inspiring views of Wellington Harbour. Lindsay is not only an awarded contemporary jewellery artist, but a kind of sculptor of mini stories. Her work explores the thematic concerns of New Zealand: nature, political themes and popular culture in a way that is uniquely hers. In fact, Lindsay is an explorer of her past, and also of New Zealand's past from a contemporary perspective. Of her Caravan series: "The tourist inevitably becomes a collector of pictures of places. I was no different. Being a visual person I also had to take pictures on my caravan journeys. The landscape had changed since my caravanning as a child in the 1960s, and certainly since my parent's camping trip in 1937. I wanted to record these special places, our special flora and objects that triggered memories for me. So I found a way to incorporate these pictures into my caravan brooches, within the restrictions of jewellery making. Join us on Lindsay's journeys through Aotearoa's cultural landscape, it's bound to be fun and a bit of a giggle.
