Reneé BoydCeramic Artist - Auckland |
|
"Sensuous sculptural ceramics distill the essence of luxuriant native forest and wild west coast beaches" Reneé Boyd is a local ceramicist who creates sophisticated pieces in the converted basement of her West Auckland home. She is proof that 'Westies’ aren’t all cast from the same mould as the characters of Outrageous Fortune Growing up in Laingholm on the edge of Auckland’s Waitakere Ranges Reneé was constantly inspired by the exhilarating environment of lush forest and untamed black sand beaches. "My parents were into DIY and all the hippy crafts back then like macramé and knitting, so they encouraged me to go to all sorts of arts classes. Eventually when I left school, I ended up studying ceramics at Unitec." With ten years experience in ceramics production behind her, Reneé combines a formidable understanding of clay and glazes with inspiration from nature to create homeware with exquisite forms and subtle details. Many of the pieces, like her signature leaf dishes, feature special glaze finishes that make them beautiful to touch as well as look at. Her lamps, like the Ellipse or Tapa Stencil lights, make clever use of elegant patterns to project light in surprising ways. Reneé’s work is gaining attention nationally with recent finalist placings in the Portage Ceramic awards. Luckily, you don't have to go there to see her work - you can buy now for yourself or as an ideal gift right here. |
