Clever Tasting at the Cloud

< Back to the Regions

Clever Tasting at the Cloud The Cloud is a huge temporary structure measuring one hundred and seventy five meters. It is the length of two rugby paddocks. It is also the social hotspot for the Rugby World Cup, even Prime Minister John Key has been there. Beneath its ethereal folds contains some of New Zealand's best wine, food, technology, fashion, art and design. And this is where our CleverBastards come in. Paul, our head bastard, has been working for months getting the creative and innovative design of several CleverBastards into The Cloud. We are now featured alongside some of New Zealands most intruguing and inspiring talent.
This part of The Cloud has been divided up into several sections: Seaside, Urban, Rural and Winery and Orchard. In the Rural area Jenny Keate's Luminant lamps (fluffly white lamps that uncannily resemble sheep) flock together on a vertical green landscape. Tim Wigmore's Giddyup Rocking Stool plays on the notion of the traditional rocking horse and Jamin Vollebregt's Hive Drawers, though absent of bees and honey, evolke nostalgia for New Zealand paddocks and farmland. Rebecca Asquith's Nautilus lamps float over the Seaside section while Nathan Goldsworthy's STEEL benches/tables combine hard materials with elegant and sleek design in the Urban area. In the Winery/Orchard vicinity Christopher Metcalfe's Bols (fruit bowls) are filled with delicious New Zealand fruit. Taste at The Cloud is open for the public for the duration of the Rugby World Cup.
