Handpainted silkscreen print on weatherboard.

I create the original insect which is usually a mixture of collage and drawing. Each insect is individually screen printed and then hand painted on to upcycled weatherboards, or paper, and then framed as if archived in a museum boxed collection. The use of weatherboard started as a play on the old, Kiwi 1950s trend of butterflies on a weatherboard house idea and is an integral part of the work. As this is set in a particular time and place, it led me to developing the artwork as museum boxed collections, archived in a social and historical context, and then layered with other personal references with collage and word."

"Notes: Butterfly on a weatherboard house as iconic as Watties peas steaming my Grandma's kitchen on Friday nights. Happy memories nestled in her huge, brown velvet chair. Nurtured like the puriri moth in it's bark cocoon, tunnelled for seven years to emerge and fly for one precious day. Or as peas in a pod. Memories treasured now as if archived in a museum collection. The home- our chrysalis as we grow, stretch our wings and fly."
