Inspirarion: "I am Māori, Chinese and Pakeha. I am native to this land. My Goong Goong (grandfather), drew birds for me from black ink, with a bamboo brush. They were simple, elegant and enlightening. I draw inspiration from those. My grandfather is celebrated in this work."
