One of two pieces resulting from an exercise in thinking about what it means to be a new Zealander and how our physical and cultural landscape has impacted upon my design work. Here, a subtly stylized koru is used strategically and purposefully to offer it a function placing it outside its usual, decorative or symbolic realm.

Plywood for sustainability, workability and economy with solid timber foot for density(weight) providing ballast.

The central shape is copy cut using a template while the foot is hand-made in two parts and is detachable for improved economy of space while in transit, if desired. Generally stained to dark walnut and clear lacquered the Blackseed coat tree is also available in a black or white painted finish.
