What is the concept? Drawing on the archetypal image of beehives clustered in paddocks, Hive explores the powerful ways in which contemporary furniture design reflects identity and a sense of place. While beehives are an international structure, their weathered facades and ubiquitous presence in the rural landscape evoke memories of long car trips and summer holidays throughout Aotearoa. Matched with an innovative colour system, Hive metaphorically generates the mood, visual appearance and emotional experience of Aotearoa, without drawing on cliches of national identity. Hive comes in three distinctive colour systems: Orewa,Taupo & Maniototo.
