Inspiration: "The first flat packed furniture was designed to be used on the battle field" says designer Nathan Goldsworthy. Also known as Campaign furniture, it is designed for portability and quick assembly; apparently Napoleon Bonaparte would take his entire office (complete with bookshelves) to war with him.
These practical concerns are Goldsworthy's intention behind The Adjutant. The table is comprised of ten pieces that are assembled by its new owner, but the table goes a step further than being an ubiquitous flat-packed furniture model.
The Adjutant's assembly does not require an Allen key, glue or screws. The legs simply screw into and lie completely flush with the tabletop creating a simple form that is beautifully realised.
